The Northern New England Pollinator Habitat Working Group

A multistate, multidisciplinary working group has been established to share information, assess critical research and outreach needs, and identify emerging issues in conservation, maintenance, and enhancement of pollinator habitat across northern New England (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont). Factors that threaten pollinators and their habitat in this highly-forested region may differ from those in other parts of the country.
 

MaineDOT Roadside Invasive Plants and Pollinator Study

The Maine Department of Transportation has begun a two-year study of roadside habitats along state highways in cooperation with the Maine Natural Areas Program of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry. The study will define various habitats occurring in roadside areas and how they are used by pollinators. This information will provide a baseline of typical roadside habitats and plant species to improve vegetation management decisions that will benefit these insects. The importance of pollinators has gained attention in the United State and the world in recent years as honeybees have begun to decline and are continually threatened. Efforts are underway across the country to better understand how to manage and improve habitats for pollinators and restore their population numbers.
